Day 63 (March 5): . 82 lbs.
Item du jour: straws
In 2021, we challenge ourselves to take a daily walk along to beach and to pick up all of the trash that we see. Here we will chronicle our project in photos. Periodically, we are planning to create art objects with the plastics that we collect. Our hope is to raise funds to support environmental conservation.
Day 62 (March 4): .46 lbs.
Barely made it back home in time to go for a walk (working), but we made it, and we did manage to pick up some trash even in the dark
Day 61 (March 3): 5.51 lbs.
A cool and windy evening. Seemed to be “leave your sand toys at the beach” day. (We did come back along Gulf Blvd - those slides were still there - one was in the street - so we picked those up last night) Eager to start working on some of our craft project ideas.
Day 60 (March 2): 4.14 lbs.
We cut the usual beach walk route short, as our bag was already full. I guess we need to bring 2 bags down during spring break/March. Really annoyed by this group who left all their beverage containers in a big heap.
Day 59 (March 1): 4.94 lbs.
I am guessing that March is going to be a big month for us, as spring breakers arrive. Among the beach toys we found (buried under the sand, just tips peeking out) and the plastic cigarette carton wrappers and juice box straw wrappers (I am now skilled in spotting them, as they glint in the sun, from quite far away) and the ubiquitous cigarette butts - we found this perfect shell (a banded tulip). And a beach ball, with which we played till after dark. As we picked up trash along the public beach, a group told us they were inspired and planned to bring a trash bag with them tomorrow. And we passed a birthday celebration. similar set-up to the one I saw on Valentines Day. Lovely. I need to check out their events page (posted on the board).

Day 58 (Feb 28): 2.56 lbs.
Our biggest haul in February.
Monthly total: 19.9 lbs (Combined with January 194.01 - that makes 213.92 lbs total since we started this journey- including the Fri/Sat/Sun beach clean ups we organized with awesome volunteers thru the Biden Inaugural Committee)
The trash cans were overflowing and the public beach area a bit crowded for us - so we snuck off at the Snack Shack parking lot, as per usual. I noticed the 6’ social distancing signs are no longer posted. Stay safe my friends
Day 57 (Feb 26): .22 lbs.
Live music at the Snack Shack. One of the first songs P and I learned to play on the ukelele.
