Day 30 (Jan 28): McLauchlan's Madeira Beach Clean Up

 Day 30 (Jan 28): .84 lbs.

Even though we had the beach to ourselves, P suggested we walk back via Gulf Blvd again so we could pick up more trash. This was a good idea, since we hadn’t seen anything along the beach.

These styrofoam cups and plastic straws.  Grrrrrrr.  at least they’re no longer in the bushes.

 Day 29: (Jan 27): 1.84 lbs.

Such a foggy night!  Thought I'd try a few black and white pics...

Day 28 (January 26): McLauchlan's Madeira Beach Clean Up

 Day 28 (Jan 26): 1.75.

Day 27 (Jan 25): McLauchlan's Maderia Beach Clean Up

 Day 27 (Jan 25): 1.89 lbs.

Busy Monday, but we made it down for our walk by sunset. And bumped into one of my students!

Day 26 (January 24): McLauchlan's Madeira Beach Clean Up

Day 26 (Jan 24): 1.24 lbs.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and actually the beach was crowded. We decided not to walk our usual route (to the public beach and back) -- so as not to walk through all the people again.

Instead, we left the beach thru a different public access, and came out at the mini golf. Most of the trash you see here was picked up along Gulf Blvd and along 1st Ave.

thinking about what we can do with those Uno cards as a part of our recycled art projects

even though we did not do all of our trash picking along the beautiful beach -- this is a reminder that whatever we pick up, wherever it is along the streets -- we are keeping that from washing into the gulf

Day 21: Dr Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service - McLauchlan's Madeira Beach Clean Up

This weekend -- over Saturday, Sunday, and Monday -- we organized Beach Clean Ups in Madeira Beach -- meeting volunteers in Archibald Park parking lot at 8:30 AM -- through the Biden Inaugural Committee's MLK Day of Service volunteer program.

This morning 28 volunteers came out at 8:30 this morning — from Orlando, Land O’Lakes, Seminole, Largo, Belleair Bluffs, Redington Beach, St Pete, and MadBch — and got right out there in the beach, nearby parks, along Gulf Blvd - and picked up more than 110 lbs!!!

Over the course of the three days, we picked up more than 155 pounds of trash!

Several of the volunteers who joined us over the last 3 days offered to come out and pick up trash with us again in the future! So we hope this is just the beginning. And we look forward to doing our part to clean up our beautiful beach community for all to enjoy.

I just love how the new Administration is already bringing people together to solve problems. Thank you to all who served across our country today in honor of Dr. King's legacy.

110 plus pounds of trash! (I say plus -- as some vols' trash is not included here)

I brought the trash home with me (!) -- sorted it into recycling, trash, and then pulled out some pieces for our recycled arts and crafts projects

Day 20: 17 January 2021: McLauchlan's Madeira Beach Clean Up -- Presidential Inaugura MLK Weekend of Service

Today we collected 35.94 lbs!

We organized a meet-up at Archibald Park thru the Biden Inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King Weekend of Service.

Our friend Marilyn took her family over to the Causeway Park -- where they picked up more than 30 lbs!  The remaining weight was pick up along the beach.

We will have to sort through this to see what can be recycled and what we can use for our recycled art projects later.

Meeting same time, same place tomorrow morning for the MLK Day of Service.

Day 18: (15 January 2021) McLauchlan's Madeira Beach Clean Up

 11.49 lbs!

We went down on a cold, rainy evening.

Not fair-weathered beach clean uppers! Which is a good thing, since today was our “heaviest” day yet with 11.49 lbs.

No idea what this piece of wood was doing there?! But it’s going to be great for our beach trash craft projects. Tonight it was just me and P and a surfer taking advantage of the storm/waves.
